Roy Constantine PhD, MPH, RPA-C, DFAAPA is a past President of the American Association of Surgical Physician Assistants and chairs the Surgical Education and Research Committee. He is the Assistant Director of Mid-Level Practitioners at St. Francis Hospital in Roslyn, New York. In 1980, he graduated from the Cornell University Surgeon Assistant Program. In 1983, he received his Bachelor of Science in Health Administration from St. Joseph's College. In 1994, he received his Master of Public Health in Health Policy and Management from New York Medical College. In 2006, he received his PhD in Health Education and Research from Touro University International.
Roy is a Professor of Health Sciences @ Trident University International and lectures at The Joan and Sanford Weill Medical College - Cornell University Physician Assistant Program. At St. Francis Hospital he is a member of the IRB and co-chairs the Patient and Family Education Committee. He is the section editor for “Mid-Level Providers in Trauma Care,” a future 2-volume Springer Encyclopedia publication. He is a member of the editorial board for Sutureline, a surgical physician assistant publication. He has authored a chapter on the Electronic Health Record in the Physician Assistant Guide to Clinical Practice- 5th Edition. He has been a physician assistant for 31 years and has worked in general surgery, vascular surgery and orthopedic trauma. He has written and spoken on topics of interest, which include surgery, patient education and patient safety.
Roy is a Distinguished Fellow of the American Academy of Physician Assistants, a Fellow of the New York State Society of Physician Assistants, a Member of the Society of Critical Care Medicine, an Affiliate of the American College of Surgeons, a Colleague of the Physician Assistant Education Association and a Founding Member for the Preservation of Physician Assistant History.
In 2007, Roy participated in Project New Orleans sponsored by the American College of Surgeons. A teardown project of an abandoned school in the Bywater neighborhood of New Orleans, which cleared the way for the Daughters of Charity - St. Cecilia Clinic.
In 2010, Roy was presented with the John W. Kirklin, M.D. Award for Professional Excellence. An award for “excellence in surgery; as a pioneer and leader at the forefront of the profession; as a teacher and clinician; for years of untiring dedication in shaping the professional identities of generations of surgical physician assistants.”
