ASA Announces New Interim Chief Quality Officer
The American Society of Anesthesiologists has selected Alex Hannenberg, MD, as its interim chief quality officer.
Dr. Hannenberg will lead the ASA’s Quality and Practice Advancement Division to ensure its members will receive the support they need to address emerging challenges related to value-based payment practice improvement. Dr. Hannenberg also will help establish and optimize relationships with relevant regulatory, scientific and medical organizations, and identify and mentor future leaders in the areas of quality and economics.
“With the continual transformation in health care, ASA is excited to have the insight and critical experience of Dr. Hannenberg as interim chief quality officer,” Paul Pomerantz, CEO of the ASA, said in a press release. “Dr. Hannenberg brings an integrated approach to multiple professional disciplines critical to the future of our members and the patients they serve.”
Dr. Hannenberg is a past president of the ASA, clinical professor of anesthesiology at Tufts University School of Medicine and a senior research scientist in the Safe Surgery Program at Ariadne Labs, both in Boston.
