MARGARET RODRIGUEZ, CST, CSFA, FAST, BS
Margaret Rodriguez has 32 years of experience in the operating room as a Certified Surgical Technologist and 19 years as a Certified Surgical First Assistant. She began as a private neurosurgical scrub/CST in 1980. She returned to the OR and pursed her AAS in Surgical Technology, then a BS in Occupational Career Training and Development from Texas A&M University, Corpus-Christi in 2002. She has been employed as an instructor in the Surgical Technology Program at El Paso Community College since 1996 and began full-time as an Associate Professor in 2000, receiving tenure in 2006.
She has served as a member of the Board of Directors of the Texas State Assembly of AST and is currently serving as Secretary. She has been on the Board of Directors of the Association of Surgical Technologists (AST) since 2005 and is currently serving as President. Ms. Rodriguez has been a site visitor for the Accreditation Review Council on Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (ARCSTSA) and was a member of the Certified Surgical First Assistant Exam Review Committee (CSFA-ERC) for the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA).
She has been a contributing author to two textbooks, a CST exam study guide, and numerous articles in the AST monthly magazine, The Surgical Technologist.
Ms. Rodriguez has been a member of the CSPS Board of Directors since 2006 and has been past Secretary/Treasurer, Vice-Chair, and is currently serving as Chair until October 2012.
